When to Split

Always split Aces and 8s.
Never split 10s or 5s.
Split 2s, 3s, 6s, 7s, and 9s depending on the dealer’s card (see chart).

When to Double Down

With a total of 10 or 11, double down unless the dealer shows a 10 or Ace.
Soft hands (Ace + low card) can sometimes be doubled if the dealer shows a weak card (4–6).

Insurance is a side bet that the dealer has blackjack when showing an Ace.

If the dealer has blackjack: your insurance bet pays 2:1, but you lose your main bet — essentially a break-even hedge.
